My music world as a tablaist...

 

It is such a great feeling being a tabla percussionist. Tabla is an Indian drum which enables me to play the most beautiful rhythms in both classical and modern music. Being a tabla player, I create beats that bring music to life, and through the sound, well, I am connected deeply with music.

The thing that fascinates me most while playing tabla is the focus that it requires. I need to learn complicated rhythms and ways of playing in order to produce so many different sounds. With every performance, I feel that the rhythm leads me and the other musicians.

The tabla is more than a drum; it's a means of showing emotions and sharing my culture. When I play tabla, I am proud of the rich tradition behind Indian music.

This is a special bond between the other musicians and me, whereby together we create something beautiful for our audience. Being a tabla percussionist means much more than just playing an instrument; it's sharing magic with the world.
